May 3, 2024 · Stronger Protections for Communities from Power Plant Pollution EPA has announced a suite of final rules to reduce pollution from fossil fuel-fired power plants - taking action to protect public health, tackle climate change, and cut pollution in our air, water, and in our neighborhoods. Air toxics, also known as hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), are 188 pollutants that EPA has identified as being known or suspected to cause cancers and other adverse health effects, including damage to the immune system, neurological problems, respiratory effects, and birth defects.
