After having the vehicle inspected, it was discovered that the manifold bolts had broken, which was likely causing the ticking sound.Clicking noise in front end 2001 dodge ram 4x4. I have a 2002 Dodge 1500 Ram 4x4, quad cab and had the same problem. In 2wd the clicking was constant, in 4wd it would go away. Also I had no 4wd while in 4wd, found that out after a snow storm. I took my truck to a buddies garage (a Dodge mechanic), he said this is a common problem.The best way that I could tell ya is to look at the bushings and see if they are worn. If the nut on top is loose, take it the rest of the way off.. and go drive around and see if the noise goes away. Take both sides off, believe its a 14mm nut. The push up on the sway bar to get the bar away from the links. Test drive.Ok, I have a solution for you, I fixed mine with help from Rango Limited on another post. Find the bracket that looks like the one pictured below. Take it off, there's 4 bolts. Lay it flat on the ground upside down, and beat the crap out of it with a hammer.
